Proton-PM foundry modernization
The Proton-PM modernized foundry production (part of NPO Energomash integrated structure) will become the base for the specialized foundry competence center. Here almost all the steel and titanium casting and items will be produced for the engine-building holding companies.

Creating the foundry competence center will allow cutting the expenses, improve the operational effectiveness of the enterprises and improve the production quality. Proton-PM has extensive expertise in steel and aluminum casting and has recently mastered the titanium casting, which is key and sometimes even the only material for the rocket and space industry. In the future, this competence center is seen as a separate business unit, which will be able to satisfy the needs of the companies of the holding and other potential clients.
At the first stage in March, Proton-PM specialists developed about 86 items of steel and titanium castings for the RD-191, RD-180, RD-181, RD-171MV rocket engines. The specialists also defined the list of castings corresponding to the production capabilities of the enterprise – 78 positions in total, 12 of them being titanium castings. Today the production preparation plans are confirmed, as well as details production mastering is going on including equipment development. The next stage is scheduled to launch in September 2019 and end in March 2021 and includes technology adjustment and production mastering.
The total volume of financing invested into the modernization reached 2.5 billion Russian roubles, including state funding and the company’s own funds.
