Roscosmos State Corporation Director General Dmitry Rogozin expressed his condolences to cosmonaut Alexey Leonov’s wife.

We are deeply saddened by the news of your husband’s death, our friend, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, pilot-cosmonaut Alexey Arkhipovich Leonov. His life was a true legend! The member of the first cosmonaut squad, the first human to perform an extravehicular activity, his name is inextricably connected with the first international spacecraft docking Soyuz-Apollo, making the way to wide cooperation in space. An extraordinary painter and a great story-teller, Alexey Leonov worked a lot with the younger generation and contributed a lot into the popularization of cosmonautics and scientific space research.

 

His life journey is a bright example of selfless service to his Motherland, science and the cause of developing space equipment and space exploration.

 

On behalf of Roscosmos State Corporation, I express my most sincere condolences to you, the family, colleagues and associates of Alexey Leonov. His name will remain in history forever, and the new achievements of the Russian cosmonautics will be the best way to remember him, the person totally devoting his bright heroic life to this cause.
