Sirius Educational Center hosting cosmonaut training
Sirius Educational Center is getting ready to host cosmonaut and cosmonaut candidates’ training in case of Soyuz MS descend module unscheduled landing onto water surface.
Since 2019 according to the agreement of cooperation between Roscosmos State Corporation and Talent and Success Fund, selected cosmonaut training elements and courses have been organized in Sochi at the Sirius Educational Center facilities having a unique infrastructure to do sports, science and art. In turn, Sirius pupils have an opportunity not only get acquainted with the theoretical aspects of cosmonaut training, but also visit some training sessions in person.
Sirius Educational Center has already hosted theoretical cosmonaut training, health and fitness camps and mountain-woody area survival training.
Russian cosmonaut emergency training system is considered the best in the world. All the training programs for the future cosmonauts have been created to get them psychologically ready in case of an unscheduled landing and emergencies. Survival training in remote woodlands under below-zero conditions, snowy mountainous area, desert or in open waters are common for any future cosmonaut.
Beside cosmonaut training, the instructors also provide training for the Sirius pupils. Viktor Ren, aerospace equipment instructor-tester and parachute tester together with Department 32 Chief Alexander German told the children about the cosmonaut candidates’ requirements, simulated weightlessness in the water, specialized parachute training and centrifuge training.
Cosmonaut training sessions at Sochi seaport and lessons for Sirius pupils concerning cosmonaut emergencies training are to follow.
