“Space beacons” presented in Sochi

The international tourism forum SIFT-2019 took place in Sochi with the representatives of Scientific Research Institute for Space Device Engineering, a branch of United Rocket and Space Corporation.

The forum discussion included an important topic to ensure safety of tourist activities at advanced routes, as well as extreme tourism. The Institute presented its new development, a personal emergence radio beacon (functioning as part of the International Search and Rescue System Cospas-Sarsat and allowing the tourist send an SOS signal in case of emergency).

Space beacons have already been successfully tested by Krasnodar Krai Emergencies Ministry at the existing advanced tourist routes in the Kavkaz ridge. Head of Scientific Research Institute for Space Device Engineering Diversification Department Sergey Chebotarev took part in the working meeting with the representatives of Krasnodar Krai Resort, Tourism and Olympic Heritage Ministry. The meeting reached an agreement to use “space beacons” for extreme tourism in the region.

Working meetings also took place with other Russian regions’ tour industry representatives to ensure tourist safety using the beacons.
